Study Claims That Attending A Concert Once Every Two Weeks Can Add Nine Years To Your Life

Nearly everyone loves to go to a good concert. Whether you’re seeing Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters or even something more obscure like The Presidents of the United States of America, people always seem to have a blast at concerts.

There’s a good reason for this; concerts are fun social events where you can meet and hang out with strangers that have similar tastes in music as you. Sure, by the end of the event your ears will be ringing, and you might be a little drunk from the bar, but the fact of the matter is that people have a great time.

In fact, concerts are so fun that there are actually few things in life that can match the pure ecstatic feeling of singing the chorus of your favorite song with a colosseum full of fans that love the same band that you do.

It might come as a surprise to learn that going to these adrenaline rush experiences can actually be quite healthy for you. In a recent study conducted by O2, scientists learned that not only can attending concerts make you happier, but concerts can also have the potential to make you healthier and significantly increase your lifespan. Attending Concerts Can Increase Lifespan

The study was headed by behavioral scientist Patrick Fagan at Goldsmith’s University. The researchers found that if a person attends a concert – or a gig as they call it – once every two weeks, that it only takes around twenty minutes at the event to increase their well-being by a whopping 21%! This is a significantly larger number than doing yoga or walking your dog, which are cited at 10% and 7% retrospectively. (1)

If that wasn’t impressive enough, here’s the real deal: regularly attending concerts can increase your lifespan by a staggering nine years!

This can be great news for people that love to go out with their friends and family to see their favorite artists perform, but it’s also great news for people who struggle to find happiness. The study highlighted the fact that in addition to increased feelings of well-being, attending concerts helps increase feelings of self-worth and the sensation of being close to other people by 25%! To top that off, mental stimulation was reported to have increased by an incredible 75%! (1)

Concerts = Perfect Pick-Me-Up

In other words, if you’re feeling a little blue, it might not be a bad idea to go to that upcoming Kanye West or Twenty One Pilots concert that everyone is talking about. Who knows? It might just give you the fix that you need. The data doesn’t lie, after all.

When talking about the results of his work, lead scientist Patrick Fagan said: “Our research showcases the profound impact gigs have on feelings of health, happiness and wellbeing; with fortnightly or regular attendance being the key. Combining all of our findings with O2’s research, we arrive at a prescription of a gig a fortnight which could pave the way for almost a decade more years of life.” (1)

For those that still doubt the legitimacy of the claims found by O2, it is important to note that this is not the first time that scientists have come to this conclusion. (2) It would seem that concerts are simply a great and healthy way for people to interact with each other and prolong their lives.
